Letseng Diamonds - Operated and maintained by Minopex Lesotho (Pty) Ltd PDF Print E-mail

Letseng, located in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho at an altitude of 3 200 m, is 150 km from the town of Butha-Buthe and approximately 170 km south east of Fouriesburg.

The Letseng Mine is the highest diamond mine in the world and is renowned for its large carat high quality diamonds. This contract is executed by Minopex Lesotho (Pty) Ltd. The plant was commissioned in early 2004 and is operated on behalf of Letseng Diamonds (Pty) Ltd. Following commissioning, plant throughput was ramped up to an interim steady-state of 120 ktpm rising to the design capacity of 220 ktpm three months later. Commissioning of the second plant commenced in February 2008, increasing throughput to 440 ktpm at completion. This facility operates on a three shift structure, seven days a week, 52-weeks a year, and has a total operational complement of 108 personnel for the two plants. Scope of work covers ROM reception, crushing, screening, dense medium separation, waste deposition, and control laboratory. Operational Standards The facility is run and managed to the same exacting standards as other Minopex sites and at required maturity will attain its rightful accreditation status. The lost time free hours have exceeded 400 000.
